About Gauloises cigarettes:
Gauloises Cigarettes first appeared in 1910, but it was only 40 years later when Filtered Gauloises Cigarettes appeared in the 1950's. At the beginning these cigarettes used dark tobacco, but in 1984 the brand was relaunched to an American type blend of light tobacco and renamed Gauloises Blondes. The brand is most famous for its very cigarettes' strength, especially in its original unfiltered version. A lower tar version of Gauloises Cigarettes are also available, sold in red and golden/white packets. Gauloises Cigarettes strong taste and romantic associations of France, make Gauloises a popular brand among many famous writers and artists. Today Gauloise Cigarettes remain a popular brand worldwide, as many smokers recognize their strong, pleasant taste and high-quality tobacco smoke.
For quite a long time the promotional items of the brand said: "If you smoke Gauloises - you contribute to the national good". This was true to some extent, as a considerable proportion of the profits coming from the sales of Gauloises cigarettes went to Regie Francais Tabacs. This was a huge corporation in which the government of the country had its share. The corporation was responsible for the control over the tobacco products consuming in the country and the profits were spent on various beneficial projects.
Gauloises cigarettes are very popular not only in France. They are preferred by many smokers of European countries bordering France and in England especially. They have recently gained high popularity in the countries of the CIS, though Gauloises cigarettes can hardly be considered cheap.
