About Winston cigarettes:
Winston cigarettes are manufactured by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. The brand was introduced in 1955, and became the best-selling brand of cigarettes in the United States. It held the #1 spot from 1966 to 1975. In the early part of the 21st century, Winston is still one of the top 10 brands in the U.S. As of February 1, 2006, Winston cigarettes are available as Winston Regular, Winston Lights, Winston Super Lights, and Winston One. The cigarettes derive their name from the town in which RJR is based. Between 1972 and 2003, Winston was known for its sponsorship of NASCAR's premier championship, the Winston Cup. The brand also sponsored both IHRA and NHRA drag racing.
In the beginning of the 90s Winston was promoted with a successful advertising campaign followed by the "Leave the Bull Behind" motto. The whole idea of the campaign was that Winston cigarettes contained no additives thus being less harmful than those of their rivals. In 1993 the Federal Trade Commission charged R.J. Reynolds for the deception in Winston advertising. The fact of Winstons not containing any additives wasn't proved to be the danger diminishing factor in what considered carcinogens and toxins. So R. J. R. was ordered to include the following statement in all their advertisements: "No additives in our tobacco does NOT mean a safer cigarette."
WARNING! Smoking is dangerous and addictive!
